On Thursday, 15 December, the Academy of Zamość hosted the National Scientific Conference entitled “The Almanac of Polish Economic Thought in the 20th Century. People-activity-ideas”. A unique publication dedicated to the heritage of Polish economy was promoted during the event.

In cooperation with the Academy of Zamość, the Institute of Finance inspired the creation of a unique publication aimed at collecting and preserving the thoughts of outstanding Polish economists. “The Almanac of Polish Economic Thought in the 20th Century” is a compendium containing several hundred pages of the work of twenty outstanding Polish economists. The publication consists of a number of articles thoroughly describing the biographies and accomplishments of the well-known figures in the Polish economy over the decades.

The volume was edited by Ryszard Skrzyniarz, PhD, professor at the Academy of Zamość, and Dariusz Wojnarski, PhD. Many academics working at universities from all over the country, including Białystok, Poznań, Katowice, Lublin, Kraków and Warsaw, also contributed to the study.

During the conference promoting the publication organised at the Academy of Zamość, Łukasz Chrobak, Director of the Institute of Finance, spoke about the Almanac:

“As the Director of the Institute of Finance, I am enormously content that we could participate in the project of publishing the Almanac together with the Academy of Zamość and all the authors of this publication. As we can read in the introduction to the book, economics is not only a field of science, but it is also a field of human creativity. With this publication, we are celebrating and preserving this creativity – for the present and future generations” – he explained.

The symposium was attended by renowned experts in the history of economics. Among them were the authors of some biographies in the Almanac, e.g. Prof. Grzegorz Kucharczyk, PhD, from the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznań and Prof. Mirosław Czerwiński, PhD, from the University of Silesia.

The event was held under the honorary patronage of the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Ministry of Family and Social Policy, the Mayor of the City of Zamość, the Educational Research Institute and the Center for Education Development, while the media patronage was held by TVP3 Lublin, Kronika Tygodnia, Catholic Radio Zamość and “Skafander” Academic Portal.
