What is the IP Box and how can it help businesses grow? The answer is given in a recent study prepared by the Institute of Finance.

An element that determines the existence and development of a company is the introduction and use of new products, technologies and raw materials in the production process. These activities are aimed at increasing the company’s competitiveness in global markets. In our latest study, we write about the solution to help develop innovation (and thus competitiveness).

The said solution is the IP Box. In a nutshell, this is preferential taxation from qualified intellectual property rights, introduced in 2019 to stimulate innovation in companies. The essence of this relief is the taxation at a 5% income tax rate of income earned by business taxpayers from certain intellectual property rights.

“In our study, we described the IP Box in practical terms so that any entrepreneur who wants to find out exactly how it works will find all the necessary information there. It is necessary, since – although the IP Box has been in place for several years – there are still many business owners who may need data on how to use it effectively”, says Łukasz Chrobak, Director of the Institute of Finance.

The document, available on the website of the Institute of Finance, contains many important facts about the solution supporting the development of innovation – from the definition of entities entitled to preferential taxation, through a catalogue of qualified intellectual property rights, to information that will assist entrepreneurs in calculating the appropriate rates or organising the necessary documentation.
