The 590 Congress with the participation of Katarzyna Obłąkowska, PhD

Kongres 590 KO

Date: 23 June 2023

Katarzyna Obłąkowska, PhD, took part in this year’s 590 Congress. During one of the most important economic events in Poland, an expert from the Institute of Finance participated in two expert panels.

This year’s eighth edition of the 590 Congress was held in Warsaw on 21-22 June. This is one of the most important events where representatives of Polish business, public administration and politics meet.

“Presence at the 590 Congress is crucial to share the results of our work and analysis in a broad forum of experts. We welcome the opportunity to take part in two substantive panel discussions”, said Łukasz Chrobak, Director of the Institute of Finance.

Katarzyna Obłąkowska, PhD, appeared on the panel entitled “Transformation of Polish public institutions. Three decades of experience” and “Culture as soft power of the state”. The first dealt with the problems of the transformation of our country after the collapse of the communist regime in the context of the functioning of public institutions and trust in society. The second was devoted to the discussion of what soft power advantages can be achieved through culture in the broadest sense by different states in the age of digitisation.

“Polish society has been transforming its institutions for 30 years. Starting as a non-democratic state and struggling for freedom against the state and foreign control, it has built a democratic country and is on its way to creating a community of trust. The research of the Institute of Finance that I was able to present at the 590 Congress in this area contributes to the discussion on this important topic. The state’s soft power built on culture and image policy is an important factor in achieving the nation’s goals on the international arena and in the field of development”, noted Katarzyna Obłąkowska, PhD.

Katarzyna Obłąkowska, PhD, is an expert in public policy, social research and behavioural economics. She is also a graduate of the doctoral programme in economics at the Warsaw School of Economics and an author of the books “Public policy in the context of immovable monuments in Poland. Experience – Rules – Model” and “Castle and Palace Museums in Poland and Their Positive External Impacts”. She serves as the Head of the Behavioural Analysis and Social Research Team at the Institute of Finance.

The recordings of both panels, in which Katarzyna Obłąkowska, PhD, was an expert, are available on the YouTube channel of the 590th Congress.
